High-Tech Handmade

While researching a paper on 3D printing for his Law, Science, and Technology class, my partner Ben found an amazing site: Shapeways allows users to design their own 3D images and have them printed out of their choice of a dozen or so materials. You could get yourself a pair of Tardis earrings, a Griffindor house ring, a macro lens for your iPhone, or a button that keeps your headphones from being jerked out of your ears. As someone who knows absolutely nothing about computer modeling except that it takes forever and can be extremely frustrating, I can only imagine how incredible it must be to hold the fruits of that labor in tangible form. I can’t wait to see how 3D printing becomes part of our daily lives.
